SCHRIFTONStories take different forms.
Schrifton is an independent cultural production and publishing house based in Berlin, working across books, film, audio and music.
We develop projects from the idea outward. Rather than beginning with a format, we ask what form an idea needs in order to become fully itself. Sometimes that form is a book. Sometimes a documentary, a podcast, a piece of music — or something that moves between them.
Our work brings together publishing, filmmaking, sound, music and research. Some projects originate within Schrifton; others grow through collaboration with writers, filmmakers, musicians, researchers and institutions.
What connects them is not a medium or genre, but an editorial approach: curiosity, independence and attention to form.
We believe cultural work can be intellectually serious without becoming inaccessible, and international without losing its particular voice or place of origin.
Publishing is one of Schrifton's foundations.
We work with literature, essays, translations and independent editions, developing publications in which writing, editing and design are understood as parts of the same work.
Books at Schrifton are not treated simply as containers for text. Each publication is developed as an object with its own voice, rhythm and visual character.

Current work includes Byzantine Studies, an academic podcast project developed around research, conversations and perspectives from the field.
